What to expect in a Reiki Session?

If you have never had a Reiki session, you might be wondering what to expect. The truth of the matter is, your experience will be unique to you. Although there are some common elements that different people describe, no one call tell you exactly what you will experience. Go into your Reiki session with an open mind and no expectations. Reiki will guide your session and you will have the experience that is right for you.

That said, one of the most common things people feel is a sense of deep relaxation. As a Reiki practitioner, I know that when someone is on my table and I hear some gurgles from their tummy, they are deeply relaxed and their parasympathetic nervous system is kicking in. They are in a state of “rest and digest.” This is the optimal state for someone to be in equilibrium, allowing for their body’s natural ability to heal itself. People also report seeing colors, having flashes of memory and/or the arising of emotions. Sometimes their hands or feet twitch. Sometimes they even feel brief periods of pain or discomfort. All of these indicate that the body is releasing stuck energy and patterns so that it can return to its optimal condition of inherent health.

Sometimes, although I may feel the client’s body reorganizing and releasing, the client only feels relaxation. Or they report feeling nothing at all. That’s okay. Reiki is still working on their system and the client is having the experience they need. It can take several sessions before a client feels anything, particularly for people who are not embodied. That’s okay, too. Each Reiki session is unique, even for the same person. Reiki guides the healing process and you experience what is right for you at that moment in time.

What should you expect in a Reiki Session? Nothing – but be open to anything.
